How to compare over 2.5 goals prices
The same Premier League fixture, over selection and goal line must match before comparing bookmaker payouts.
The goal line defines the bet
Over 2.5 goals wins when the teams combine for at least three goals under the bookmaker's stated full-time rules. Over 3.5 needs at least four. A three-goal match therefore settles those two selections differently. The larger price on over 3.5 is not a better quote for over 2.5.
Start with the official Premier League fixture, then check whether the bookmaker is quoting full-time total goals. Team totals and first-half totals are separate markets even when the printed number resembles a full-time line.
Only rank an exact match
Put each over 2.5 quote for the same match in one row, then compare decimal payouts. Keep under 2.5 in another row. If two bookmakers show 1.92 and 1.98 for over 2.5, the latter returns £99 rather than £96 on a £50 winning stake.
A bookmaker may show no goal-total quote or may suspend the market around team news. The board should display missing coverage honestly. A stale or different-line quote cannot fill that gap.
Keep the article's example separate from the live board
This worked example explains settlement, not the current odds for any club. To compare a real fixture, read its market row and capture context, then confirm the current price and terms at the bookmaker.
- Same fixture and full-time goals market.
- Same over or under side and exact line.
- Recheck price and availability before kickoff.
Worked example
Illustration: over 2.5 goals is 1.92 at Book A and 1.98 at Book B. A £50 winning stake returns £96 or £99. Over 3.5 at 2.60 is another bet: on exactly three total goals, over 2.5 wins and over 3.5 loses.
Illustrative numbers for explaining the calculation. They are not current bookmaker quotes.
Sources and method
The lines, prices and goal total are hypothetical. The calculation uses stake multiplied by decimal odds. Actual market settlement follows bookmaker terms.
